This series covers phenomenal photographic locations within the contiguous United States. Each place includes a wide variety of beautiful opportunities for photographic greatness.
South Beach is located at the southeastern part of Massachusetts. It developed only about twenty years ago due to a severe winter storm and consists of dunes and sparse vegetation. Large tidal flats cover much of the constantly changing area. South Beach is perfect for bird photography, especially digiscoping shorebirds.
Birders love the area especially in the late summer for the vast numbers of shorebirds. This is a great place to find Piping Plovers, American Oystercatchers, Ruddy Turnstones and many others. South Beach is easily accessible by ferry but there are no facilities but the rewards of close views of birds are worth it.
Note: Since there are no access restrictions, it is a good idea to use patience so as not to disturb too many roosting or feeding birds. There is plenty to see without flushing them out.
